Helping those affected by the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, RM Sotheby’s is generously supporting the Salon Privé DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal by donating a 1970s MV Agusta 750 GT as a star lot in a charity auction to raise essential funds for the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC).
To boost the charity endeavour for the inaugural Salon Privé London event at the Royal Hospital Chelsea, 21-23 April, in an incredibly generous gesture, the world’s leading auction house has provided a stunning 1974 MV Agusta 750 GT to kick proceedings off.
In addition to the charity auction on the Friday evening, at the Salon Privé Concours de Vente Celebration Dinner, an online silent auction will start on 14 April in the week leading to the three-day luxury car event. With over 25 items available, bids can be made via https://www.spdec.org. The Directors of Salon Privé, Andrew and David Bagley, are calling on other event partners and exhibitors to submit items for the auctions and join the effort to support the people of Ukraine who are going through unimaginable hardship. For any donation items please kindly submit them for consideration HERE.
“Like everyone, we are following the heart-breaking news about the war in Ukraine with deep sadness,” said Andrew Bagley. “It is clear that they need enormous help and support, in many ways, and we hope that the funds raised will make a real difference to some of the people affected by this terrible conflict as we #StandWithUkraine.”
Peter Haynes, Marketing Director for RM Sotheby’s EMEA, says: “This is a fantastic initiative by the team at Salon Privé, who are working hard to raise as much money as possible for this urgent cause. It’s with great pleasure that we offer the MV Augusta as we hope it will raise a sum that will be a considerable contribution to help the appalling humanitarian crisis in the Ukraine.”
The 1974 MV Agusta GT (Sport Conversion) offered in the auction was supplied new to MV Agusta factory rider, Gianfranco Bonera, who owned it until 1978. It was originally manufactured to “GT” specification and subsequently uprated to Sport specification, and with 69 horsepower available, this period superbike provides stunning looks and an exhilarating riding experience. The bike has a value estimated between £35,000-£50,000.
Last month Salon Privé London committed 20% of the event’s entry ticket revenue to kick start a sizeable donation to the Appeal and is engaging with the industry to develop other charitable endevours leading up to, and during, the luxury car event.
Salon Privé London, sister event to Salon Privé Blenheim, will make its debut this April at the Royal Hospital Chelsea, as one of the UK’s most exclusive luxury car events. This presents a fantastic and timely opportunity to galvanise all those involved with, and attending, the event to raise much needed funds to help the people of Ukraine.
Working with DEC and Work for Good, the funds raised will directly help the people forced to leave everything behind as they flee the fighting in Ukraine. With 18 million expected to be affected by the conflict, and four million displaced, the resources will provide vital supplies of shelter, food and water.
Bringing together 15 leading aid charities, the DEC raise funds quickly and efficiently at times of crisis overseas. People in life-and-death situations rely on its help as it works to save, protect and rebuild lives through effective humanitarian response.

About Royal Hospital Chelsea
The Royal Hospital Chelsea was established over 300 years ago during the reign of King Charles II, whose vision for a home for veteran soldiers was brought to life by Sir Christopher Wren. King Charles II’s understanding that the country owes a debt of gratitude to its old soldiers informs the spirit of the Royal Hospital today.
The residents of the Royal Hospital, known the world over as Chelsea Pensioners, are all retired soldiers of the British Army. To this day, the Royal Hospital provides care and comradeship to veterans in recognition of their loyal service to the nation.
Located in the borough of Kensington and Chelsea in the heart of West London, the Hospital is highly accessible by road, rail and tube from throughout the capital and beyond.
Already established as a prestigious city venue through long-term associations with the likes of RHS Chelsea Flower Show and Masterpiece Art Fair, the Royal Hospital Chelsea was a natural choice for Salon Privé London and a suitable counterpart to the September venue, Blenheim Palace.
