Starlight Children’s Foundation helps to brighten the lives of every sick child in the UK

Starlight was founded 21 years ago by the actress Emma Samms (Fallon from TV’s Dynasty) and helped just 4 children in its first year.  Today, as well as being the leading wish-granting charity, Starlight is the only national charity providing entertainment in every hospital and hospice throughout the UK. Over 500,000 sick children every year go to Starlight parties, laugh their way through pantomimes, go out on Starlight Escapes, play games and watch films on the Starlight Fun Centre, and enjoy the toys and puzzles of the Starlight Distraction Box.  Starlight helps children to forget about their illness and simply have a bit of fun.  

Starlight’s magical wishes are granted to some 500 children each year who are bravely battling a life-threatening illness, giving them the chance to live their dreams, something exciting and happy to look forward to and helping to restore the fun of childhood to children whose lives are devastated by serious illness.  And a Starlight wish gives the whole family happy memories to share and cherish, whatever the future holds.

Happily, some 70% of Starlight children go on to get better.  Time and time again, parents say they believe their child’s Starlight wish marked the turning point in their illness.  

There are 2,500 UK-children diagnosed with a terminal or serious illness. By 2010 Starlight wants to be able grant a wish to EVERY child that needs some Starlight sparkle in their life. Thanks to the wonderful support of Salon Prive this year, Starlight is going to get one big step closer to its dream.
